Funeral Mass will be at noon Saturday December 7, 2019 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, IL. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ste. Marie, IL. Military Rite at the cemetery will be conducted by Ste. Marie American Legion Post #0932. Visitation will be from 10:00 – Noon Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that an expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Ste. Marie American Legion Post #0932 with envelopes at the church or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home P.O. Box 121 Oblong, IL 662449.
Henry F. Kirts, 91, Oblong, IL passed away on Wednesday December 4, 2019 at the Magnolia Center in Robinson, IL.
He was born on July 2, 1928 in Ste. Marie, IL and was the son of Henry Joseph and Lillian Catherine (Yager) Kirts. On August 21, 1954, Henry married Vera Mae Jenkins who preceded him in death on February 12, 2016.
Henry taught high school Chemistry and Physics for 31 years in the Oblong School District starting in 1959 until his retirement in 1990. He is a WW II Veteran having served in the United States Army from 1946 – 1948. He was a member of the Newton High School Class of 1946 and graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1954. He received his Masters Degree from Murray State in 1958. Henry was a member of Our Lady Lourdes Catholic Church, Oblong, IL; Ste. Marie American Legion Post #0932; Crawford County V.F.W. Post #4549 and Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, Newton, IL. He enjoyed commercial net fishing and made his own nets, camping and most of all enjoyed the time he spent working his vegetable gardens. Henry and Vera loved to dance and could be found dancing the night away at several area dances.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Mark and Tammy Kirts, Lafayette, TN; his daughter Ann Marie Kirts, Oblong, IL; three grandchildren Amy and David Daughtry, Portland, TN, Matthew and Nicole Kirts, Murfreesboro, TN and Joshua and Casey Kirts, Clarksville, TN; six great grandchildren Blake Daughtry, Emma Daughtry, Eli Kirts, Evea Kirts, Renley Kirts and Henry Kirts; a brother and sister-in-law George and Chlorine Kirts, Ste. Marie, IL as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Henry in death were his parents; wife; son Michael Joseph Kirts; daughter Amy Jean Kirts; five sisters Freda Reynolds, Ruth Allen and three infant sisters.
